The Sunday Wine – Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine green-skinned grape variety and it’s the eighth most-planted grape worldwide. It is assumed that it originates from the Bordeaux region of France but some sources mention Loire as the genesis region. The name most likely comes from the French words „sauvage“ for ‘wild’ and „blanc“ for ‘white’.

Sauvignon blanc is planted in many of the world’s wine regions, producing a crisp, dry, and refreshing white wine with green and herbaceous flavors. The grape is widely cultivated in France, Romania, Canada, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the states of Washington and California.

Sauvignon blanc, when slightly chilled, pairs well with fish or cheese, particularly chèvre. It is also known as one of the few wines that can pair well with sushi.

Our LacertA Sauvignon Blanc is a lovely wine with a light yellow clear color. In the nose it’s elegant and expressive with aromas of ripe bananas, green apples and lemon. The taste is intense, with fresh aromas of peaches, passion fruit and pomelo. The aftertaste is long with hints of overripe fruits.

The LacertA Sauvignon Blanc goes well with salads, fish, chicken and cheese.

Let me introduce you to my favorite winter salad which pairs perfectly with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc chilled at 8 degrees.

Meet the Fennel-Salad with Orange:

Ingredients for 2 persons:

1 fennel

1 red onion

1-2 oranges

some black olives

1 tsp. dill (fresh or dry)

apron. 8 tbsp. olive oil

1 tsp. balsamico vinegar

salt&pepper

Cut the fennel and the onion into thin strips. Mix with salt, pepper and a good amount of olive oil and leave for 10 min. Slice the oranges and arrange them on the plate. Put the fennel and onion mix on the oranges, sprinkle with balsamic vinegar and dill. Serve with a glass of cold Sauvignon Blanc.

Enjoy!
